Foundation:
Skilled Workforce
Skilled trades are embedded in our daily lives, and reflected in our roads, homes, hospitals and infrastructure. Over the next 10 years, BC will see a rising shortage of these workers, spurred on by the massive investments being made in key sectors like natural gas, mining and bio-energy. Of the one million job openings ahead, 43 per cent need skilled trades and technical workers. By taking actions now, we can all ensure that BC citizens are prepare for the opportunities of tomorrow.
Skills and training needs are continuously evolving as new technologies and economic opportunities open up new sectors. This also means new opportunities for those just entering the workforce, students considering their career options and people wanting to change career paths. In order to make sure training and apprenticeships are keeping pace with the changing needs of our economy.
